When can I use these services?
Please feel free to take advantage of eCounseling if you live in Ohio and find it hard to come in for sessions (I do require the first session to be in person) or currenly attending sessions but want additional support.
What are the risks?
Emergency situations should be handled by calling 911, Lucas County Rescue Crisis, or by going to the nearest emergency room and asking to see the Psychiatrist on-call.
I do make every effort to respond to requests within 24 hours, but please, do not take this goal as an implied guarantee.
Your privacy, confidentiality, and security could be compromised on a cell phone or other wireless device, using a computer, or just accessing the internet.
I use secure hardware and take advantage of the security that's available through web-based email, and chat services. They are secure, but you must take full responsibility for how secure your hardware, software, and procedures are when contacting me wirelessly or through the internet.
Finally, I may misunderstand your message due to the limitations to web-based chat services or the limitations of a written exchange if contact is made by email.
Okay, but how do I pay for it?
This is not a covered service for most insurance providers. Please know that these services are not a necessary part of your office visits that are covered by insurance. And if you choose not to use these additional services, it won't decrease the effectiveness of your current in-person counseling sessions or those sessions you've had with me in the past.
So why pay for more services?
The benefit of eCounseling is to give you additional options for contacting me if you live in Ohio, but outside the Toledo area. Also, if you are currently attending sessions, you can contact me to discuss new, unexpected, or other issues.
Now I do reserve the right to not use eCounseling to address issues if I believe they need to be addressed with you in person.
